A CORNERSTONE of the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan, the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program focuses on sustainable, long-term reductions in road trauma by delivering safety upgrades in targeted, high-risk areas.
The program will fund vital road safety infrastructure in the Gosford electorate community, including:
Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP has celebrated the announcement of this funding, highlighting in particular the ongoing advocacy of the community regarding the need for safety upgrades at Rawson Road Rail Crossing.
“The NSW Government continues to prioritise road safety in the Gosford electorate, investing in the safety of our community. This investment is a strong push in the right direction, ensuring drivers can make it home safely to their loved ones every trip,"said Liesl Tesch.
“In particular, it is fantastic to see development funding secured to progress an upgrade to the Rawson Road Railway Crossing, with investigation work funded for the installation of traffic control signals. The community has been clear that safety upgrades at this location are needed and I am thrilled to see this project progressing.
“Almost a decade after funding was removed from the upgrade of this intersection after a backflip under the former government, it is wonderful to see works finally progressing with development investigation funding secured. Since my election in 2017, I have heard the community loud and clear; safety upgrades at this location are needed.
“With works at Rawson Road Railway Crossing and along the Central Coast Highway at East and West Gosford progressing, the Minns Labor Government is investing in lifesaving road safety improvements, improving safety in our community where it is needed most.”
Transport for NSW has been successful in obtaining development funding for the Rawson Road and Railway Street intersection to progress with an option to upgrade the intersection and level crossing with traffic control signals. Work on this will commence shortly, with anticipated consultation with the community expected to take place towards the end of 2024.
Round 2 of the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program builds on the success of the previous Safer Roads Program, which is estimated to save up to 1,550 lives across the lifetime of the program.
Round 2 of the Program spans three years, including the 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27 financial years, with prioritised projects to receive the funding as needed.
