THE George Downes Drive project will install a guardrail, non-skid pavement, line-marking and signposting to the identified black spot to help mitigate crashes occurring along this road segment.

 

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid said “The Federal Government is making a significant investment in improving road safety.

 

“It is great to see George Downes Drive in Kulnura receive the funding it needs to ensure a safer journey for the many residents who use the road.

 

“The Federal Government will continue to work with state, territory and local governments to deliver even more critical road safety upgrades in the future.”

 

The Federal Government is committing $3 million to the project as part of $45.1 million committed to 82 sites on NSW roads under the 2026-27 Black Spot Program funding round.

 

The projects were recommended by the NSW Black Spot Consultative Panel. This panel is comprised of local stakeholders to ensure nominations of the highest priority and importance to the local community are recommended for approval.

 

Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain said, “The safety improvements at these Black Spot sites will help reduce the risk of serious crashes and increase the likelihood of people getting to their destination safely.

 

“The Black Spot Program delivers low-cost improvements that have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing the risk of serious crashes and fatalities on our roads.

 

“With our increased funding commitment to this long-running program, I encourage individuals, organisations and local governments to nominate sites in their local communities for consideration in the next funding round.”

 

The Federal Government has increased annual Black Spot Program funding to $150 million, improving road safety at sites right across the country.

 

It is a key part of our commitment to reducing fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.

 

Anyone can nominate a Black Spot for consideration, including individuals, community groups and local councils.
