THE $275,000 injection has been secured under the Homelessness Innovation Fund to enable 12 months of specialist services to be provided at the site, whose location is undisclosed for safety reasons.
Longstanding support of Allawah House and Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch, has welcomed the announcement.
“Allawah House is an absolutely essential facility, offering those over 55 at risk of homelessness a safe place to stay with other women and wraparound supports," Ms Tesch said.
“The Minns Labor Government is providing additional support to services to allow women to transition back into life and back into safety.
“Thanks to the Homelessness Innovation Fund, Pacific Link Housing and Women’s Community Shelters are continuing to support our community to help address the homelessness crisis.”
Allawah Houses success results from the input of numerous Central Coast community organisations and community generosity. Action Housing for Older Women, along with a number of Country Women’s Associations, have been part of donating resources and supporting older women in crisis since its inception.
The NSW Government’s $100 million Homelessness Innovation Fund is delivering targeted grants for reforming temporary accommodation and service reform, with $30 million provisionally allocated for the 2024-25 financial year.
The Homelessness Innovation Fund is a key component of the $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program, which will also build 8,400 new homes for public housing, deliver 21,000 new affordable and market homes and upgrade 30,000 social housing properties.
The supported transitional accommodation is being delivered thanks to a partnership between Pacific Link Housing, Women’s Community Shelters and Homes NSW to help women over 55 years of age to secure long-term affordable housing.
