Sustainable Future Festival returns

The Central Coast is set to become a hub for eco-conscious living as the Sustainable Future Festival makes its highly anticipated return. Running from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, the free, family-friendly event aims to inspire the local community to embrace waste reduction, circular living, and environmental preservation.

Presented as a highlight of the broader Lakes Festival, the initiative is a collaborative effort between Central Coast Council, 1Coast, and Cleanaway. Organisers have designed the day to be fully inclusive, even welcoming leashed dogs to join the festivities.

THE Sustainable Future Festival, the Central Coast's biggest celebration of sustainable living, returns to The Entrance Memorial Park on Saturday 14 November for a free day of entertainment, workshops, markets and family-friendly fun.

With live entertainment, interactive workshops, sustainable markets and activities for all ages, the festival makes it easy to discover new ways to reduce waste, save money and live more sustainably.

Central Coast Mayor, John McNamara said the Sustainable Future Festival is a great opportunity for people to learn practical skills on how to reduce waste and live more sustainably, all while enjoying a day out with family and friends.

"Whether you're interested in learning how to compost, reduce waste or simply enjoy a great day out on the Central Coast, there'll be something for everyone at this year’s Sustainable Future Festival," Mayor McNamara said.

"The festival is a great opportunity to bring the community together, support local businesses and community groups and learn simple ways to look after our environment for future generations."

This year’s program features an impressive lineup of environmental advocates and hands-on workshops. Renowned sustainability expert Nina Gbor will lead keynotes tackling the global crisis of fast fashion, while Anna Axisa is slated to provide practical demonstrations on composting and worm farming. For those looking to secure localised food resilience, Tanya Mottl will share expert strategies on community food systems.

Interactive education takes centre stage with practical upcycling sessions. The creative crew from Unwanted FC will host clothing mending workshops alongside an "Upcycled Charm Bar," teaching attendees how to extend the lifespan of their wardrobe. Visitors can also master Furoshiki—the traditional Japanese art of fabric wrapping—offering an eco-friendly alternative to single-use holiday gift wrap. Children can enjoy nature crafts and explore a real garbage truck.

Visitors can also learn practical ways to reduce waste at home through workshops on composting, worm farming, upcycling, textile repair and sustainable gardening.

Highlights include performances from dirtgirl, Costa the Garden Gnome and scrapboy in The Grubby Bucket Show, live music from Formidable Vegetable and plenty of interactive experiences for all ages.

True to its mission, the festival operates under strict zero-waste guidelines. Single-use plastics are completely banned, and food vendors will use Betizen reusable containers. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to utilise the park's refill stations.
