THE Central Coast Kids Hub in Tuggerah will be the first of four Kids Hubs being rolled out across NSW as part of a $35.8 million joint investment by the Australian and NSW Governments to support children’s mental health.

Assistant Minister Emma McBride said, “For kids experiencing mental health or wellbeing challenges, it’s important that they have a safe place to access support and care.

“There are more than 33,000 families with young children aged under 15 years living on the Central Coast and we want to make sure no child is left behind.

“The new service in Tuggerah will provide holistic, family-oriented care to support children and their families through challenging times.”

The Kids Hub provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary mental health and wellbeing care for children and their families.

It will offer a range of specialist medical and allied health services provided by teams, which may include psychiatrists, mental health clinicians, paediatricians, care navigators, peer workers and Aboriginal Health Workers.

NSW Minister for Housing, Rose Jackson said, “We recognise how hard it can be for families when their child is experiencing distress, and it can be difficult to know where to go for help.

“The Central Coast Kids Hub will provide a safe and friendly place where local families can access free, holistic, wrap-around mental health and wellbeing care for kids up to 12 years of age.

“The service recognises that early interventions are crucial to get better long-term outcomes for young people.

“Health staff will work closely with families and provide timely assessments and referrals to services so that children and their families can get the right support, when and where they need it.”

The Central Coast Kids Hub is expected to officially open in May and will be available for children aged under 12 who are experiencing mental health challenges, and their families.

The Tuggerah site is located close to several other family-focused support services, including NDIS and medical providers, childcare centres, and the Aboriginal Child and Family Health Centre.

Minister for the Central Coast, David Harris said, “It’s so important that young families in our region have these specialised mental health care services available.

“This new Kids Hub in Tuggerah will give mums and dads a safe and trusted space to go if their child is facing mental health challenges.

“This is a great service made possible through a joint investment by the Minns and Albanese Labor Governments, ensuring help is close at hand.”
