IN recent years Botanical art has made a resurgence. As people look towards conserving the environment there is a greater appreciation of the world around us. One group on the Central Coast have been meeting regularly for the past years to diligently illustrate the plants from our ever-changing world. From everyday garden specimens to rare and exotic species each artist in the group aim to accurately render the beauty of their subject with extreme attention to detail.

The Central Coast Botanical Art Group is a friendly group of like-minded artists who have a great passion for both painting and plants. The artists share a love of nature with a focus on plants as their subjects and work in a range of mediums that include watercolour, graphite, coloured pencil, and gouache. With no formal teacher the group offer support, loads of encouragement and constructive feedback for those who ask. There are no expectations, and everyone works at their own pace and in their own style. Some artists chose to adopt a scientific approach while others work in a more contemporary way. There is a great mix of members with some artists in the group having worked for Scientific Botanical Institutes or teach Botanical illustration at university, while other members paint purely for their own satisfaction and love of the subject. Everyone is welcome.

In May, The Central Coast Botanical Art Group exhibition will showcase some of the work they have completed over the past years. Works on display will feature inspiring and detailed artworks depicting a range of botanical subjects including flowers, fruit, fungi, and ferns. Works will be for sale along with a large selection of Botanical Cards and Prints.
