THE Skill Engineer Ltd. has successfully secured a grant of $49,510 for their projects involving young people at every stage – from identifying the need and developing a proposal, through to design, project delivery and final review.
The YouthScoot project will empower disadvantaged, isolated youth by teaching vocational skills like welding and eletronics, teamwork, and workplace safety.
The project nurtures pride, achievement, and self-esteem, paving the way for a brighter future through hands-on learning and personal growth.
Hon Rose Jackson MLC, Minister for Youth, said “The Youth Opportunities program is a fantastic and important program for NSW communities and young people across the state.
“We know that when young people feel empowered to bring their opinions to the table, and feel that their ideas are respected and considered, it fosters personal confidence and professional growth.
“This program allows NSW youth to a drive a range of innovative projects, overcoming barriers and creating a greater sense of belonging in their local area.”
Since it was first launched in 2012, the NSW Government’s Youth Opportunities program has provided $18.3 million in funding to 399 projects across the state.
Maggie Macfie, CEO of The Skill Engineer Ltd, said "YouthScoot is more than just a program - it's a lifeline for young people facing isolation and disadvantage.
“Participants gain valuable employability skills, reliable transport, and stronger peer and community connections.
“This project nurtures pride, achievement, and self-esteem while offering a pathway into engineering, empowering youth to shape their own futures through practical skills and real-world experience."
Funded projects address marginalised young people’s needs in an innovative way, increase young people’s connection to the community and provide young people with skills to achieve their full potential.
Young people will have the opportunity to develop a range of skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork; life skills and healthy behaviors; event management and planning; and volunteering opportunities that link young people to further education and training.
Marginalised young people may include youth aged between 12 and 24 who are transitioning from out-of-home care, experiencing homelessness, are from low socio-economic backgrounds, people with a disability, young carers, or young people in contact with the justice system.
Liesl Tesch MP, Member for Gosford, said “Congratulations to The Skill Engineer Ltd. for the fantastic work they are doing in the local Gosford community, fostering vocational skills like teamwork and workplace safety for isolated young people in our community.
“It is great to see young people being able to play a genuine role in the project from start to finish.
“This program is a valuable resource for marginalised young people in Gosford to help them learn a range of skills that strengthen their ability to participate in their local community and support future social and economic participation.”
The projects will commence in 2025.
